I meant to add this to the last post - but I forgot. I only remembered while I was trying to take a nap. Maybe I need a little bit more excitement in my life, if I'm thinking about President Bush while napping?
Anyway, moving on....
I wanted to comment on the fact while much of the city has been staying out of President Bush's way, people have also taken the opportunity to speak directly to him. The Jerusalem Post yesterday was full of articles, op-eds, and ads saying, "Welcome to Israel, President Bush...here's what you need to do". Aside from the topics that I would have expected people to talk about (terror, the separation barrier, not giving up Jerusalem, etc), the incarcination of Jonathan Pollard for the past 23 years has been a very public topic. An entire square was renamed the "Free Jonathan Pollard Square", and buses and bulletin boards have been plastered with this poster:
Pollard is an American who was caught spying for Israel - but unlike other spies, he wasn't giving Israel information against America (or in order to harm America) but rather to protect itself. The information was security information that America used to share freely with Israel, but just a few years prior, had stopped. Pollard has been jailed for so much longer than any other spy in American history, and far longer than anyone with a comparable crime. His official website can be found here. And you can always read more on Wikipedia.
