67 Things to Know About Me
(its supposed to be 100, but class ended before I could finish writing the list!)
1. I love peanut m&ms, sugar cookies, and challah that is sticky because it was cooked with honey.
2. I really love my swiffer – they should make me a spokesperson for this product.
3. I’m a student at the Jewish Theological Seminary in both the rabbinical and the education schools.
4. I love swimming and I even joined a pool for the year…have I gone once in the past month? Umm…that’s a negative…
5. I’m a graduate of Brandeis University with high honors in Near Eastern and Judaic Studies…and a minor in Hebrew, a language that I still don’t speak. It is still unclear to me how I minored in this subject.
6. For three years, I lived on the Upper West Side of New York City. And then I spent a year living in the German Colony of Jerusalem.
7. Now I live in Boston, MA - and commute into NYC for class two days a week. Its crazy, I know. But I like it this way.
8. When I'm not in NY, I work at Gann Academy in their Experiential Education department. Its fun. Its educational. Its educationally fun.
9. I’m a huge Red Sox fan. And until he got married to someone else (the nerve!), my family was rooting for a marriage proposal from Theo Epstein, GM of the Red Sox and Boston’s Man of the Year in 2005.
10. With the time difference, I was up each night watching the World Series games at 2am last year! Now, that’s dedication.
11. I collect shot glasses from places around the world that I (or you) have been – my collection has grown to over sixty, the majority of which were gifts.
12. I created and now sell a t-shirt that says, “real men marry rabbis”. It’s been used in marriage proposals, weddings, ordination ceremonies, and Purim skits. It’s bright green, yet people still wear it proudly. Thus far, I’ve sold over 250 of them, and people keep ordering them!
13. When I admit to my materialistic side, some of the popular products that I own are: a pair of purple crocs, a yellow seatbelt bag, and a PowerBook mac computer.
14. I love wearing bright colors. I would wear hats every day if it didn’t confuse people about my marital status or health. And I have a weakness for handbags.
15. I invented a sandwich – it involves hummus, salsa, avocado, onions, and tortilla chips on bread. It’s delicious.
16. After working a bit in the education department of the Jerusalem Rape Crisis Center, I think I have found my calling in the field of Jewish Sexuality Education…that is, if I can learn to say “sex” without blushing!
17. I love cooking, particularly when I have people to cook for.
18. I hate listening to voicemails, but love the beep that my phone makes when I have a text message. The excitement of wondering who sent it to me, and of what news awaits, is one of the small pleasures in life.
19. Chocolate ice cream used to be my favorite flavor. It has now been replaced by mint with oreos…yum!
20. Of all the things that I left in the States this year, I think I miss my sewing machine the most.
21. I brought three suitcases to Israel with me for the year. It continues to amaze me how much I own, that I left at home, that I don’t really have no need for. I am proud of all the stuff I was able to give away upon returning home and moving into my apartment.
22. I want to buy a hybrid car when I grow up enough to own my own car (and pay that much for a car). For now I'll settle on buying a gas-efficient small car.
23. Panic sets in when I don’t have access to the outside world, by means of a phone or Internet.
24. That said I used to want to grow up to live in a Little House on the Prairie, wearing long dresses with matching bonnets, cooking without burning down my wooden house, and feeding the horses.
25. I adore writing letters to people – and get excited about receiving real mail in the very real mailbox that I check every day before walking up my steps to my apartment.
26. My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving – because it is full of family celebrations without the religious obligations of the Jewish holidays.
27. Figuring out Shabbat plans can be a source of stress for me, but when they work out (which they always do!), it’s my favorite day of the week.
28. Camp Ramah in New England has been my home for the past four summers and will again be my home next summer. Its a great job and I love it.
29. I used to make my own jewelry. I haven’t done it in a while, but sometimes I still sell my work. My grandmother and her friends are my best customers.
30. I am the oldest of two kids. When Scott was a senior at UConn, he would talk to me on IM every Tuesday afternoon while in class. Now that he's living in NY, we try to see each other when I'm in the city.
31. “Thanks! I got it on sale!!!” is almost always my response when someone compliments something I am wearing.
32. I love to vacuum. Almost as much as I love to swiffer.
33. I’ve made more quilts than can fit on my bed – even on a cold winter night. I love them all.
34. My favorite wine is a dessert wine called mascato d’asta.
35. I drink water more than any other drink.
36. I pee a lot. But don’t worry, I’m a fast pee-er.
37. I’ve cut 10 inches off my hair and donated it to Locks of Love. Twice.
38. My glasses are a variety of shades of blue and teal. I love them.
39. Once a big wind blew my glasses off my face and across Broadway, popped my lenses out, and broke the frames. I never found the lenses again, and needed new glasses completely. I was on my way to Baltimore that weekend. I wore contacts that weekend – or walked around nearly blind.
40. I am a carbon copy of my mom, except she’s nicer and I’m funnier. Just kidding. I’m not all that funny.
41. When I didn't have a car, I'd say I missed driving a car – but in reality, now that I have a car, I don’t like driving much.
42. I wish I could argue with cab drivers in Hebrew better. I know when I’m being ripped off, but often can’t do anything about it.
43. It took me nearly a year to figure out how to live by myself. Then I went back to living with roommates for three years. While that was fun, and it was always nice to have other people around, I'm quite happy back in my own apartment.
44. I’m a planner. I’m not sure how I would live without my calendar. I don’t like not knowing what is going on. This bothers people who like to go with the flow.
45. My parents invented a phrase “flexible and mellow”, shortened as “f&m”, for me as a kid, to help remind me to do a better job letting things fall as they may.
46. I dated an Israeli tank driver. I think that sounds macho, even though he didn’t like the job so much.
47. A few years ago, I made a quilt out of many of my t-shirts. Since then, lots of people have asked me to make them one, but only my dad has actually gotten the t-shirts to me. I haven't made his yet.
48. When I was in middle school, I had three requirements for the man that I was going to marry: taller than me, could sing, and his last name came alphabetically before mine. If I made a list now, it would be a bit more nuanced…but not much!
49. I had dinner in Istanbul with famous Israeli singer, Yoram Gaon, “the Elton John of Israel”.
50. Some of my favorite TV shows are Friends, Law and Order, The West Wing, and What Not To Wear.
51. I’m not kidding – I love Stacy and Clinton!
52. My freshman year roommate, randomly assigned to me, is my best friend. We wrote a thank you note to our residence director who put us together.
53. I refer to my married friends by their initials – M&E, E&D, M&A, etc.
54. I now have friends with children. Does that make me old?
55. I enjoy giving my leftovers from a restaurant to people on the street. They are often incredibly grateful and it makes us both feel good.
56. I can’t share the last bite of my food. Take my second to last bite, or one in the middle, but I’ll say NO if you ask for my last bite!
57. Also…I hate it when I have my own food and other people eat it! Eat your own food!
58. There’s something called “Orange Soup” in Israel. It has nothing to do with citrus fruit. It’s made of orange vegetables, squash, pumpkin, carrots, etc. I love butternut squash.
59. I get my lungs from my Dad. And my sarcasm. And my ADD. And my off-key singing.
60. But not my uncoordinated-ness. That I got from my mom.
61. I love reading romance novels. They’re just like a romantic comedy movie – good for a few hours entertainment.
62. Rarely do I remember the books a week after I read them, so its easy to re-read them!
63. I’m addicted to Facebook. I check it as often as I check my email – which is often, really often.
64. My favorite Facebook application is Scrabbulous. Oregon Trail is coming in a close second.
65. I have over 700 friends on Facebook. I actually think I have at least a minimal connection with all of them.
66. When my closest friends call my American cell-phone, their ringtone is the theme-song of “Friends”.

67. I’ve written this list as if people who read it will actually care about all 67 items on it. I don’t actually believe this is the case, but hope it will give you a little glimpse into who I am. Perhaps one day I will add the other 33 items to make it a complete 100!?
