The Contrast

There's so much to write. I'm not done telling you about my Alternative Winter Break trip. I want to write about tonight's rally for Israel. The past two days have both been really long days. Hopefully if not tomorrow afternoon, than after Shabbat, I will be able to write more.

I just wanted to notice the contrast between the world I live in and the world the rest of this country lives in.

I spend every free moment reading the news, following the situation in Israel, talking about what is going on, praying for the lives of the civilians, mourning the deaths of the Israeli soldiers killed, and thinking about when I will next go back.

When I open my blog reader, to read the latest updates on the blogs I read, all of the Jewish and Israeli ones are filled with opinions and news about Gaza.

At some point, I started following a set of "Christian mom blogs" (I don't know how I found them, but I did, and I typically enjoy them). But lately I can't help but think of how superficial, naive, and even immature they are. Amidst the reports on Gaza, they write about reviewing make-up products, Christmas gifts, vacation mishaps, and free giveaways.

I know that I have done this kind of writing in the past, but...

don't they realize that there is a war going on?!?! That people are dying? and living under the threat of rocket fire day in and day out? That newly married men and fathers and sons are being killed by Hamas?!

Who cares about make-up and vacation trips when people are dying???

(I know, I know, that is a little bit of a rant, but I had to get it out. I'm sure I'll go back to reading and enjoying those blogs once this war is over - and it will be over soon - but in the meantime, I'm having trouble pretending nothing is wrong.)
